Genkido-kai is a complete fighting system based on karate, but with many extra techniques from aiki-do and other styles of karate. We practice, for example disengagement techniques, throwing and falling. That is why this style might be better than karate as self defense. While there are more men involved in karate is Genkido-kai an even mix of men, women and children.
Genkido-kai is a composed system based on karate, aiki-do, jiu-jitsu, kobudo and other styles. In the beginning much of the practice will be basic traditional karate - about 90 % of the techniques. As the student improves more weight is put on other parts such as wristlocks, disengagement techniques, throws, falls and other aiki-do techniques. With time karate will only make 10 % of the techniques in genkido-kai. In Dan-grades is kobudo - weapon techniques taught.
