Gensei-ryu karate-Do

Traditional Gensei-Ryu originates from the Okinawa island, and i developed by Sensei Seiken Shukumine. Besides developing Gensei-Ryu, he has also founded the Tai-do style, and he is known and acknowledged as a legend in martial arts.

We distinguish between traditional karate and karate as a sport.

In this way the daily training is planned as training of the pure and classic Gensei-Ryu style, while members who have athletic ambitions are offered extra training in view of for free fight or kata tournaments.

Style

This style of Karate-do originates from the village og Tomari, which is situated in the southern part of Okinawa.

Tomari, Shuri and Naha are the three villages which were "main centres" of the traditional karate. It was not untill after WWII that karate was named. Before that it was called TI or TE, that is TOMARI-TE, SHURI-TE or NAHA-TE.

Until the beginning of this century Sensei Soko Kishomoto practiced a form called TOMARI-TE.

Sensei Kishimoto was a remarkable man, who had a deep knowledge of techniques from many forms of karate and many varied styles. He developed his karate from real fights, but he never gave it a name.

Sensei Kishimoto himself could defend any atttack with the techniques based on the "Toride Uke" and immediately after this make a counterattack.

At the age of 78 Sensei Kishimoto got a student named Seiken Shukumine.

Sensei Shukumine began practicing at the age of 8, first with Sensei Anko Satoyama, then with Sensei Kishimoto.

In 1944 Sensei Shukumine enrolled in the navy. After serving he begun to explore the techniques based on his Senseis theories and try them on his own body. From this he developed the fundamental techniques based on "rotation, turn, change and variation".

Alltogether they created the katas TEN-I-NO, CHI-I-NO and JIN-I-NO and these three combined made the kata SANSAI-I-NO.

Based on his masters theories and his own development Sensei Shukumine gave his style the following name: Genseiryu

Special international tournament practice

The international Sougo Budo Academy Association is founded by Sensei F.Dariagard.

F. Dariagard is active as a referee both internationally as well as nationally.

There is a good fellowship among the club members. A lot of the members have made friendships through the club. This has helped newcomers to the city establish a social network.

In order to strengthen the fellowship the club arranges different parties such as summer- and Christmas parties.

Genshikan 2000

The club participates in different tournaments, just as the club hosts an international tournament each year. It will also be possible to participate in martial arts shows.
